Artworks: The Storyteller
The Storyteller is a series of video slideshows constructed from photographs found in my grandparents’ collections, dating from the 1950s through the 1980s. The photographs at times recall memorable moments from family history, and at other times are blurry, accidental photographs that my grandparents kept nonetheless. Most of the images’ original circumstances, meanings, and stories are only partly known, becoming the starting points for stories about strange and sometimes improbable encounters with animals.
In the space between image and text, fact and fiction, memory and invention, the photographs become something other than evidence: they become witnesses, clues, and openings through which another story can emerge, invoking a world in which humans are no longer the only storytellers.
