Geomagnetic Travellogue

This project follows the zero-degree line of the earth's magnetic field from the year 1590. It is a work in progress.

The year 1590 is significant, as it coincides with the development of Galileo's first telescope, and with the creation of the first compound microscope.

Therefore, my project explores incidences of macro- and micro-scopic vision, magnetic attraction and polarity, and the intersection of scientific, historical, and artistic narratives.

On May 10, 2008 I made my first journey. I would attempt to go to Peru, Iceland, South Africa, and Australia.

I started my expedition in Los Angeles, and after carefully studying my maps, I plotted my destinations. I had 24 hours to make this trip.

can I reach Peru through a looking glass?
