Artworks: Daciaramă-Panorama
This series of photographic artworks are created through a unique and complex process. They originate with a digital i-phone panorama photograph, taken through the window of a moving car, with all of its visual glitches and distortions. This image is printed out on paper, transferred by hand to a plastic adhesive transparency, and then chemically printed in the darkroom onto black-and-white photographic paper. These works are part of a larger series of digital-to-analogue photographs.
The name Daciaramă plays with the words "Dacia" and "ramă." Dacia is both the ancient name for the geographic region of Romania, as well as a make of popular Romanian automobile; and ramă, means window frame in Romanian. These photos were taken while driving throughout the roads and small towns in western Romania, a region where the traditional analogue world collides with, sometimes resists, and exists in spite of, the modern digital world.
